From January 2020 we helped with relief efforts to multiple towns in regional Victoria, including Gippsland, Upper Murray Region and Tintaldra (pictured below). Volunteer drivers made dozens of rounds of deliveries of requested items that were donated from within our group and wider community.
Some towns were suffering from lack of power and mobile coverage, others were without access to food and other basics. Those without electricity meant perishable foods weren't available or in short supply.
We put out calls for donations from the community of the following goods accessible in central drop points that people could collect from, or which were then transported when safe by the recipient organisation once the authorities granted them access to the fire ravaged areas:
Over 13,000 Firie/ Emergency Worker snack packs
Toilet paper
Wipes
Period items
Nappies
First aid kits
Toiletries
Clothing such as new underwear
Tents
Camping goods
Linen
Blankets
Pillows
Fresh bottled water ( over 65,000 bottles!)
Animal feed and relief equipment
Hand made items for animal care
Many properties had experienced severe damage as well and so we helped with numerous other requested items where possible.
