2022 Quarter 1 review

What a busy start to the year!! We hit the ground running with emergency aid requests from week 1.

We’ve had ongoing relief requests from the 1st week of January and there’s no end in sight. Our sensational volunteers have come through time and again to help with donations of requested items, making or craft items plus attending multiple packing dates for packs. We can’t thank you all enough!

We have made multiple donations to Avalon Centre & Grace Heart Community Church who help the homeless and those in need. Requests came in from Orange Door Dandenong & Frankston plus Africa Family Services for comfort and emergency packs for adults and children fleeing domestic violence. We thank Frankston council whose generous grant funded the Orange Door Frankston packs.

Callouts were made for people Bayside council are helping, David Southwick MP awarded our founder Deb with Caulfield Local Hero Certificate and we were privileged to be invited to talk at a Soroptomist evening.

Westfield Southland held a breakfast for the Local Heroes recipients. Deb attended with Jenny from BCER’s committee and met the other two worthy winners.

We were fortunate to receive generous donations from Socks 4 Support who gave us socks for our comfort packs as well as the homeless we support.

Chilli Promotions also donated a vast amount of sanitisers for our packs and there were enough to pass on to Grace Heart Community Church as well as some other organisations to help them stay covid safe.

Bay Quilters surprised us with some stunning quilts that will be included in our next aged care initiative.

Cheltenham Brownies held a craft session with their girls for International Women’s Day. Brad Rowswell MP popped in to help at a mega packing session.

For the 2nd year running we were a finalist in Bayside Councils Australia Day awards in the Community Event of the year for 2021’s volunteers day thank you morning tea.

We launched 2 of our Donation Stations with more to come. Thank you to Community Bank Highett & Your Dentistree for having these fabulous stations for the community to donate goods to. The stations were funded thanks to ongoing support from Community Bank Highett and produced at Men’s Shed in Beaumaris. Another fabulous community collaboration and there’s more to come!

Late March we celebrated 2 years as a legal entity! It’s been a phenomenal amount of work & we wish to thank everyone who has donated, requested items, spread the word, helped with craft items & packing sessions etc etc. We have a strong & growing volunteer army that enables us to help thousands in need.

Keep spreading the word about us as the more members we have the more we can help where help is most needed.
